What Is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing. It’s not hypnotherapy. It won’t have you flapping around like a chicken and it’s definitely not a faddy hippy concept.

Hypnobirthing is a state of mind. It’s the re-definition of birth. It’s the empowerment of labouring mothers and supporting partners. It’s the future.

For centuries women have been made to believe that they’re incapable of giving birth naturally. That they can’t cope with the process. That they can’t take the pain.

Complete and utter bullshit.

Carrying a baby and giving birth is the one thing we, as women, were BORN to do.

It’s a superpower.

Our patriarchal society can’t handle it, but it’s the truth.

What we do is incredible and it’s high time that everybody started to believe it. Most of all, us women.

96% of us are capable of having natural births. Of course, there are circumstances where medical intervention is needed and we are lucky here in the UK to have access to that if we need it, but, even then, birth can be reframed. Women can be more in control of their bodies and emotions. Birth can still be an amazing, and dare I say it, enjoyable process.

Hypnobirthing is an antenatal course whose aim is to reframe birth. To help mothers feel their way back to that innate, intuitive connection to their bodies and their power to birth. It's also about looking at your wants and don’t wants for the birth of your baby; understanding what they mean and choosing alternatives in case things don't go to plan.

Calmness and positivity are at the core of Hypnobirthing. Breathing and mindfulness, a focus. By reducing stress and anxiety we are able to make sure we have the right hormones being released, aiding our body to work to its optimum.

It's a science.

It’s a refreshing, revolution in childbirth and it’s available to everyone.
